KCCI Report: Bonanza of Baked Goods Coming Monday
There will be a "baked bonanza" waiting for RAGBRAI riders when they arrive in Jefferson on Monday, July 21. That's the story that KCCI-TV in Des Moines reported in its evening newscast on Thursday, July 17. Reporter Eric Hanson and videographer Bob Thomas came to Jefferson earlier that day to report on the prodigious baking efforts by the crew at Bunkers Dunkers Bakery and by Jefferson's cinnamon roll queen Marianne Carlson. For RAGBRAI, Bunkers Dunkers is baking 700 to 800 dozen assorted donuts, with 600 dozen of them likely to be their famous old-fashioned glazed donuts. Carlson is baking 800 of her cinnamon rolls, which are two-time grand champions at the Iowa State Fair. KCCI-TV anchorman Kevin Cooney, in introducing the story, told viewers that a "baked bonanza awaits RAGBRAI riders in Jefferson," where "kitchens are all buzzing with batter and with butter."
